No Solder assembly of Controller board to PCB
Alternative non-soldering or low-solder methods include:
- Press-fit headers: Using staggered header pins that press onto PCB pads with enough tension to make a connection, then only soldering the pins to the controller itself
- Spring-loaded headers: Also known as “Japanese spring headers,” these offer a swappable connection but can be unreliable and expensive
- Dupont connectors: Using crimped wires with Dupont plugs, though this still requires soldering the wires to the PCB and controller
- Mill-Max sockets are widely recommended for their stability and low profile, whereas spring headers are often considered less robust for controller connections because each pin carries more critical signals than a single switch
